A Travel Guide for Quali-T Men's Health Patients

Traveling shouldn’t interrupt your TRT regimen. At Quali-T Men’s Health in Salem and Eugene, we understand that maintaining consistency with your treatment is crucial for your well-being. That’s why we put together this guide to help you navigate traveling while on TRT. Whether it’s a short domestic trip or an extended international adventure we’re here to help keep your health in focus wherever your travels take you.

1. Consult Your Provider Before Traveling

  • Discuss Your Travel Plans: Before any trip, schedule an appointment with your Quali-T Men’s Health provider. Discuss your destination, duration of travel, and any potential time zone changes.

  • Obtain a Doctor’s Letter: Request a letter from your doctor stating that you are prescribed testosterone replacement therapy. This letter can be helpful for airport security and customs.

  • Review Your Prescription: Ensure your prescription is up-to-date and reflects the correct dosage and medication.

2. Proper Medication Storage and Transportation

  • Carry Medication in Original Packaging: Always keep your testosterone medication in its original, labeled container. This is the only thing that attaches the controlled medication to your name.

  • Carry Medication in Carry-On Luggage: Never pack your medication in checked luggage, as it could be lost or delayed.

  • Temperature Control: Be mindful of temperature fluctuations, especially during air travel. Testosterone typically does not need to be refrigerated but should be stored at a moderate room temperature.  (Ie: 68-77 degrees Fahrenheit)

  • TSA Guidelines: Familiarize yourself with TSA guidelines regarding medication. You can find information on the TSA website. It is not a problem to fly with testosterone and/or needles/syringes as long as they are accompanied by your prescribed injectable medication.

3. Domestic Travel Considerations

  • Time Zone Adjustments: If traveling across time zones, discuss with your provider how to adjust your medication schedule. We recommend maintaining your regular injection or application schedule as much as possible.
  • Packing Extra Medication: Pack a few extra days’ worth of medication in case of travel delays.

4. Can You Travel Internationally With Testosterone?

  • Customs Regulations: Research the customs regulations of your destination country regarding testosterone medication. Some countries have strict rules regarding controlled substances. When you return to the United States you will be required to declare testosterone and syringes to Customs and Border Patrol upon re-entering.

  • Language Barriers: If traveling to a country where English is not widely spoken, consider translating your doctor’s letter and prescription into the local language.

5. Injection Supplies

  • Needles and Syringes: Check the regulations regarding carrying needles and syringes. Some countries may require a doctor’s letter. Several countries, including the UK and Mexico, often require a doctor’s letter for testosterone.

  • Sharps Disposal: Pack a portable sharps container for safe disposal of used needles.

  • Alcohol Swabs: Carry a sufficient supply of alcohol swabs for injections.

6. Maintaining Your Routine

  • Stick to Your Schedule: Try to maintain your regular injection or application schedule as much as possible.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water, especially during air travel.

  • Manage Stress: Travel can be stressful. Practice stress-management techniques to support your overall well-being.
